Auster Sound Method
The Auster Sound Method (ASM) is a simple, accessible, and artfully-designed approach to offering sound experiences that support rest, self-awareness, and healing.
Rooted in years of personal practice, study, and facilitation, ASM blends the science of sound with the art of listening. It provides a flexible, intuitive framework that empowers practitioners to create intentional, inclusive, and grounding sound experiences — guided by presence, curiosity, and care.
At its heart, this method invites us to tune in — to sound, to silence, to the spaces between. It reminds us that sound is something we feel, something we remember, and something that brings us into connection with ourselves and each other.
ASM is an evolving practice — one that responds to each person, each space, and each moment. It honors the intelligence of the nervous system, the necessity of deep rest, and the transformative power of listening with attention.
The Auster Sound Method is for those who feel called to sound, who value personal practice, and who are ready to hold space for others with thoughtfulness, creativity, and integrity.
We offer ASM Practitioner Training both in person and online. It’s broken into three phases, methodically building you up to certification in the Auster Sound Method, so that you can confidently lead one-on-one and group guided sound baths.
Here’s what you can expect from each phase of ASM Practitioner Training:
Phase One
Discovering Sound & Full-body listening
During this first phase, we’ll learn about full-body listening, the foundational tool of a sound bath experience. We’ll cover how and why sound and listening can be used to access calm, clarity, and healing in the mind and body. And we’ll work with partners and have group discussions to help develop our understanding of our relationship to sound, connection to our intuition, and insight into how we can incorporate various sound practices into our life and work.
Phase Two
Developing Awareness + Technique
In phase two, we’ll build on our work by further refining your voice as a practitioner and developing your technique. This phase includes extensive discussion about the anatomy of hearing and listening, and the tools that can be used to facilitate sound baths.
Partner exercises and group discussion within class will be used to help fine-tune your awareness and ability to hold space for others with sound and guided listening practices. Discussions will also include an introduction to the tools and instruments used to facilitate an experience plus improvisation techniques and learning how to play using your intuition.
Phase Three
Deepening Expression + Working with Groups
In phase three, we expand outward.
Our focus here includes: the arc of a sound bath, facilitating group sound experiences, and growing your business and community.
You’ll learn how to adapt to facilitating groups of all kinds in all types of environments - from yoga and meditation spaces to schools, hospitals, boardrooms and beyond. We’ll use discussions and partner work to explore how to prepare and show up with clarity, and how to work with the energy of any group. Sara will answer deeper questions about the healing aspects of the work and situations that may arise while sharing sound with clients and groups. She’ll also offer her in-depth approach to working with sound in groups, including how she sets up instruments and environments.
Auster Sound Method Code of Ethics
A Commitment to Integrity, Presence and Care
The Auster Sound Method is more than a technique — it is a practice of deep listening, presence, and compassionate service. Whether in a quiet room, a spacious hall, or across a screen, our practitioners hold space with humility and integrity.
This code of ethics reflects the shared values that guide every Auster Sound Method Practitioner.
We Lead with Presence
Our offerings are not performances — they are invitations into stillness. We meet each moment with awareness and authenticity, honoring the space and each participant as much as the sound.
We Listen Deeply
Listening is the heart of this work. We listen to the environment, to each participant, and to our own inner landscape. Sound follows silence — and we honor both.
We Create Safe, Inclusive Spaces
We commit to trauma-aware, inclusive practices. Every individual’s experience is unique, and we offer our sessions with gentleness, care, and respect.
We Respect the Power of Sound
We approach sound as a sacred and powerful medium — one that can open, soothe, or activate. We use our instruments intentionally, and always with reverence.
We Practice with Integrity
We honor clear communication, respectful boundaries, and honest representation. Our work is rooted in service, not ego — in community, not competition.
We Continue to Learn
Our personal practice is ongoing. We understand that to guide others, we must continue to show up for ourselves — with reflection, humility, and a willingness to grow.
We Acknowledge Lineage and Tradition
We are grateful for the rich history of sound and healing practices across cultures. We acknowledge and respect these roots, and remain committed to cultural sensitivity and awareness.
The Auster Sound Method is built on trust — in ourselves, in our tools, and in the people we serve. This Code of Ethics is our way of ensuring that the integrity of this work remains strong and clear as it continues to grow.
